BROOKLYN BOATWORKS opens up a completely new world of skills, opportunities and accomplishments for our urban students. As the pile of plywood transforms into actual, beautiful sailboat, the students’ sense of pride and confidence grows. The values and skills our student gain serve them throughout life. Once our students accomplish the feat of constructing a boat, they leave the program ready for their next challenge with a new confidence.
Eighth grader Jovon recently summed up what he’s learned through BROOKLYN BOATWORKS as simply,
“Consistency leads to success.”
Boat building and boating are extracurricular activities usually offered to young people living in middle and upper class suburban communities, not those in the inner city. We rely on donations to keep our programs going. Please donate generously.
We are currently a program of the Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies, an alternative public middle and high school serving a diverse student body. To support us, you can make a tax deductible donation to the non-profit organization Friends of Brooklyn New School/Brookyn School for Collaborative Studies. Please designate BROOKLYN BOATWORKS to ensure your donation benefits our program.
